Awakening The World
The idea of conquering the globe is not new. Thousands of years ago horses carrying guys with horned helmets thundered over the hills and into throngs of the meek who were about to have a new way of life forced upon them. Sven didnít exactly use gentle persuasion. Neither does Lost Horizon. They might burn down your hut with a spark from a red-hot fret board. Fingers fly and drumsticks flail on Awakening The World as Lost Horizon unleash their brand of melodic speed metal, sort of a crossbreed of Queensryche and Priest. The quartet of Swedes (too bad theyíre not from Oslo, then they could be The Four Norsemen) will have no trouble enticing the village sons with this impressive debut, mixing in lots of synths on the prog-metal anthem "Welcome Back." "Welcome" is an ideal song with a perfect sentiment for those who prefer their metal free of alloys such as rap. Lost Horizonsí lyrics are full of positive messages even when the subject is war. Spiritual influences are a foregone conclusion from a band that elects to replace their given names with the aliases Cosmic Antagonist, Ethereal Magnanimus, Preternatural Transmogrifyer and Transcendental Protagonist. Even though these guys will bring oxygen rather than smoke when they swoop into your village, itís best not to take chances. Lock up the women folk.
